How to Build Wind Generators

Learning how to build wind generators was not that difficult once we found the right construction plans. Finding out what materials to use for the blades, where to get the generator from and how to put it all together proved rather interesting actually.

When we found the plans we wanted the author even helped us along with friendly online advice. That was a big help.

Our family had decided to put up a wind generator to increase the charging capacity of our renewable energy system. The sun isn’t always shining on our solar panel array so we decided to add a wind generator to help out. Looking around for wind generators to buy we quickly learned that the 1500 watt model we would need would cost us over $3000. We quickly decided to learn how to build wind generators instead.

We are pretty good at doing research, as that has been our career for many years. Even still it took us many tries to get it right and find some plans and an author who would help us along the way.

how to build wind generatorsThe plans we finally found that fit us perfectly had very detailed drawings that were easy to read. As soon as we downloaded these plans we knew we could learn how to build wind generators.

Of course, this was a credit to the author who made ‘How to Build Wind Generators’ very easy to follow. Many of the other plans we got were so complicated they ended up in the trash, or were so amateurish that we wouldn’t have wanted to even put up the finished wind generator once built. We really wanted it to look good!

The plans for ‘ How to Build Wind Generators’ called for smooth PVC pipe for the blades and relatively easy to obtain DC motor for a charging unit.

We thought it was a great idea to use DC current for a charging unit. That way, the wiring could be run direct to the battery bank, with just a simple charge controller and lightning arrest system.

The plans showed the easy fabrication of the blades. It took us about 2 hours to make them. We really thought it would be more complicated. And the price of under $35 was very reasonable too, considering it would have cost us thousands to buy the same wind generator we built.
