Off the Grid Living

Living off the grid in 2008 means many things to our family, but probably the most important is freedom. We have been living off the grid for 14 years now and we would like to tell you that it's easy. Come on board. But it's not easy, only worthwhile.
Take a moment and sign up for our free newsletter. You'll get our complete step-by-step guide for getting off grid as well as tons of other information.
Living off the grid is now all we know. We could not go back to our former life, even if we wanted to. Why would we? We are free from electric bills, free from the shackles of debt, and our time is free to do with what we want. We have chosen to help you get started living off the grid. That is our mission.
We aim to teach you about off grid living and wilderness appreciation with every article we write for you. Look at all that we have been given, a beautiful planet, time to make it a better place and the energy to do it with. But, what do most of us do? And we were just as guilty of this as the next family when we first started out in 1985. We take and we plunder, without any thought to our children or their future.

When we go we want to be able to look back and say, "We did good, we made a difference in people's lives." That is what Jane and I were put here to do. When Jane and I announced to our family that we were going to live a self-sufficient life living off the grid on a yet to be cleared homestead some 250 miles away from where we grew up, guess what our respective families thought of us? Yes, they thought we were crazy, lost it, and that we would eventually come to our senses and move back 'home'.
But, it was something we were called to do. It is something that we were meant to do. And, just like Helen and Scott Nearing, whom we shaped our life after, we will continue until our final days. Thank you Helen for your early words of encouragement.
