Articles are a great way to get started in affiliate marketing. When writing articles focus on how this product can help them, or focus on the cost savings, or you can focus on how fun it is. Focusing on how it will help them and cost savings will generate you the most sales though.

There are many solutions to the problem of finding solar panels for home use. You can take the traditional approach and simply buy solar panels, or you can take a more creative (and cost effective) approach and actually build your own. How much can you expect to spend? In order to run your entire home with solar panels, and if you buy them new you can expect to spend in the thousands of dollars. But what if you built your own? What would you get then? How difficult is it? Most people look at solar panels and think they are some wonder product that comes from a factory and there is no way to produce them yourself to save some money. But you can and you will save a pile of money in the process, over 70% in most cases. Let's explore this option first, how do you get started? * You need a good place to work, spare room or even a garage * A minimum of tools, saws, caulking gun and screwdrivers mostly * A good supply of solar cells, the building blocks of solar panels * Solid plans for solar panels for home use Any room will do for your work of building your own but it should be well ventilated as you will be using caulking and doing some soldering. Don't worry; it is really simple to learn. Best of all you don't need a ton of space either. The tools are what is available in most households, nothing fancy. About the only thing we went out and bought was a small jigsaw to cut plywood, and that was because our old jigsaw had just given up. The backer is easily cut out of plywood with the new jigsaw. Finding solar cells is probably the thing that scares people the most. Where am I going to find those? But they are readily available from one of the biggest online suppliers. And in great quantities which keeps the price down due to the competition. Don't be fooled by suppliers telling you there is a shortage of them either, that's just not true. There are times of the year when even a hundred solar panels and 10 times our present battery storage would not run our home. In the fall and winter the sun may not shine for weeks at a time. We really wanted to smooth out the wrinkles in our charging cycle as well as produce more power for our home, that meant adding more solar panels just wouldn't work for us. Hydro power is probably the most cost effective option if you have enough running water with an adequate drop to produce power. Water power will produce 24/7 , but we had a problem with this option. From November until April our stream freezes solid and in order to produce power we need running water. Unless we could figure out a way to run ice through the hydro turbine that is. That left us with the wind generator option. A quick assessment of our site told us we had wind energy potential. Open space and a site that was free of obstructions for over 300 yards. We would only need a 40 foot tower to get up to the good wind. So, we started shopping for a wind generator. The wind definitely went out of our sales, so to speak, when we started looking at the price of new and used wind turbines. During our search for a wind power turbine a friend of ours suggested why not build one. He had done just that recently with some plans he had downloaded from a website called Homemade Wind Generator. We took a look at the nice job he had done on his wind generator and decided to download our own plans. We learned how to build a wind generator that cost us less than $100 , including the small cost of the plans (still under $20), but compared to the price in the thousands for a new or used wind generator to meet our needs it was a real bargain. Tabbing solar cells is a process where two flat pieces of wire are attached to the face of a solar cell. I remember failing miserably when I tried to do my first couple solar cells. The wire wouldn't stick, I left the soldering iron on too long and discolored the cell etc. etc. Through a little experimentation I found a method that works quite well for tabbing solar cells. First we need to decide what kind of solar cells we're going to use for our solar panel. I recommend getting 4" x 4" or 3"x6" cells as they produce around 2 watts each. Do not buy cells where the measured output is in milliamps as you'll end up with a 20 volt panel that wouldn't power a flashlight. You're looking for cells that produce 0.55 volts and 3.98 amps. To find watts just multiply volts and amps together. Now that we have our cells it's time to tab them. As long as you do the preparation work tabbing them is a very easy process. We'll start out with what's required. Of course you will need your solar cells. In addition, you'll also need a soldering iron, solder, tabbing wire, flux and a ceramic tile or piece of glass. Tabbing wire is simply flat wire that is highly conductive. For the flux I recommend you get the pen type flux as it's quite a bit easier to apply. The ceramic tile or glass is used to draw heat away from the cell as you're soldering it. Get your work area set up and start heating up your soldering iron. Lay the solar cell flat on the piece of glass (that's what i use). Take out your flux and apply a thin layer on the two white lines that run down the face of the cell. Those two white lines are where all the negative power flows in from the smaller lines running horizontally across the cell. Next, we'll need to prepare our tabbing wire. Each piece of tabbing wire should be twice the length of your cells because you'll need some wire when you go stringing your cells together. You will need two pieces of tabbing wire for each cell that you do. Once all the pieces are cut you need to tin your tabbing wire. This is a fairly simply process. Lay the wire down flat and apply a thin coat of solder to half of the wire. This way the solder is on the underside of the wire when you go to solder them on to your cell. Once you've prepared your cell and tinned your wire all you need to do is solder the wire onto the cell. It's a fairly painless process just make sure not to leave your soldering iron in one place for too long. After I'm finished I usually take a toothpick and make sure that there is a good bond between the wire and the cell. Congratulations, you've learned how to tab your solar cells. All you need to do now is string them together and put them into a frame and you have a solar panel!

I remember when we first started looking for tabbed solar cells. We had found out how much a solar panel installation really cost and had decided to build our own solar panels. For our first panel we decided to use tabbed solar cells because it would be good to teach us the basics of building them. I'm getting a little bit ahead of myself though. First let's look at the different types of solar cells that are available. There are basically two different types of cells available (not including the different types of manufacturing processes)-- tabbed and untabbed cells. Untabbed solar cells are simply cells which haven't been tabbed. Tabbing is simply a process where two little strips of flat wire are attached to the face of each cell. Untabbed solar cells are cheaper, but the downside is that you need to tab them yourself. This isn't a very complicated task and as long as you prepare all the parts for the tabbing process doesn't take very long either. Preparing for the tabbing process means that you'll need to put some flux on the cell and tin the tabbing wire before soldering it to the face of the cell. It adds about 2 hours to the build time of a solar panel and I recommend it after you've built at least one panel. Tabbed solar cells have already had the two little pieces of wire soldered onto them. This makes building the solar panel much faster because you can jump right in and string the cells together. These cells are usually 30% more than their untabbed counterpart, but even building solar panels with these cells still saves you around 60% over buying the same output solar panel (even used). If you're just starting out wanting to build a solar panel I recommend you get some tabbed solar cells first. It will make your life a lot easier and you'll learn everything about building solar panels except tabbing them. If you're a little bit adventurous than you can go with the untabbed cells, but make sure not to drink any coffee before tabbing them! I learned the hard way by ruining a couple cells because my hand was really shaking.

Building a wind generator is a much more cost effective solution than buying one. The average price of a 1000 watt generator is USD $2500. I would have to save up for more than a year to be able to buy one. That's why I built my own wind generator. It's not as difficult as you might think either. A wind generator has some basic parts. I'll deal with the tower first. Many people have researched and found that buying a wind tower is very expensive. That's true, but when I built mine I actually made $100 getting it. You see, many people these days have switched to satellite television, but they still have those television towers up. I was doing some construction at a house and noticed this. I asked the guy if I could buy it off of him. He told me "I'll give you $100 dollars to take that thing away. The next part of a generator is the generator. I really like wind generators because they allow you to produce AC or DC power. This is good for several reasons. First, if you don't have the money for a battery system you can hook up an AC motor and generate AC power for your house. As you can afford batteries you can switch the motor to a DC one and charge the battery system. Now for the most important part of your generator- the blades. Another trick that we've learned to make blades is to use PVC tubing. I know it sounds crazy, but a correctly cut PVC pipe works great as a wind generator blade. The plus side of using PVC as blades is that they are very strong. The last piece you need for your wind generator is the vane. This can be made out of anything. Mine is a triangle I cut out of some plastic. Assembling the generator is usually a whole day job-- good for a weekend-- you need to set up the tower and secure it with 5 guy wires. These wires are important as they provide stability so your generator doesn't fall down. You will have to mount the turbine on the top- which should be done before you set up your tower. Make sure to attach the wires to the generator because I've forgotten.

Several years ago I was asking myself the same question that you're asking yourself now. How can I make my own wind generator? Where do I start? What parts are required? These questions and many more can make the task seem impossible. It's not impossible though... you can make your own wind generator. All that's required is a little DIY skills. I like to break down the entire process into simpler steps. The first step involves breaking down the wind generator into it's most basic parts. The most basic parts of a wind generator are the: blades/hub, body, and the tower. The blades are made from PVC pipe. It might seem a little weird, but if you cut PVC a certain way the resulting pieces make great blades. The hub can be made from a pulley from your local hardware store. The body is made from leftover PVC from your blades. The motor and tail are both attached to this. We do this to keep water away from the motor. It's very important that this be airtight as any water that gets inside can ruin the motor. The blades/hub get attached to the shaft of the motor and the tail is attached to the other end of the body. A flange is attached to the underside of the body which is attached to the tower. The last step is the tower. This is often the most important part of any generator installation, but we've found ways to get free generator towers. Do you remember a time before satellite and cable? When we had huge towers that looked like they were trying to pick up alien signals? Many people still have a TV tower hooked up to their house, but don't use it anymore. All you need to do is ask them and they will often give it to you for free. When I went searching I got paid $50 to take down the tower! This is a very brief introduction, but I hope it convinced you that you can make your own wind generator.
